President Lee Jae Myung on Wednesday visited South Korea’s Akh unit stationed in the United Arab Emirates, praising the troops for their role in bolstering peace and security in the region.
The visit to the unit came as Lee concluded a three-day state trip to the UAE, during which he held talks with Emirati President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and met with leading figures from the region's business community.
Lee met with about 50 service members at their Abu Dhabi base, noting that they were carrying out vital duties -- from maintaining stability in the Middle East to ensuring the safety of Koreans overseas.
The Akh unit has been deployed to the UAE since 2011, undertaking missions ranging from joint training to protecting South Koreans during emergencies.
