The South Korean government has posthumously awarded the late actor Lee Soon-jae the Order of Cultural Merit, Gold Crown (1st class), the highest honor given to cultural figures. Lee died Tuesday at the age of 91.
The honor is conferred on individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the development of culture and the arts and to expanding public access to cultural activities.
Lee debuted in 1956 in the play “Beyond the Horizon” and went on to appear in more than 140 works across television, film and theater, showcasing a wide range of performances over his decadeslong career.
The funeral procession will be held early Thursday morning, and he will be laid to rest in Icheon, Gyeonggi Province.
