The trial of former first lady Kim Keon Hee on multiple corruption charges, including stock manipulation, continued Wednesday, the first anniversary of former President Yoon Suk Yeol’s Dec. 3, 2024, martial law declaration that ultimately led to Yoon's removal from power.
Kim, who has been under arrest since August, was assisted by two correctional officers as she entered the Seoul Central District Court on Wednesday morning for the 12th hearing of her trial.
After she expressed her intention to refuse to make any statements during witness examinations, the judge decided to end the public broadcast of the hearing.
Kim, 53, is standing trial on charges of involvement in stock price manipulation schemes, meddling in candidate nominations for elections, and taking bribes from the Unification Church in exchange for favors.
Her husband, former President Yoon, is also in custody while on trial for allegedly leading an insurrection and participating in the military's alleged cover-up of a Marine's death, among other charges.
